Choose the 6-inch when you can name a need for its larger table, slightly taller material envelope, two different 6-inch blade constructions or exact-model vise. Both are 1/4 hp variable-speed trim saws, not substitutes for a larger rough-slabbing workflow.
Compare the documented working envelope
The 4/5-inch model has a 7.5 by 4.75-inch table. Its exposed blade height is 1 inch with the 4-inch blade and 1.5 inches with the 5-inch blade. The 6-inch model has a 15.5 by 9-inch table and 1.75 inches of exposed blade height. These dimensions describe the machines; they do not guarantee that an irregular rock can be supported through a cut.
Both manuals limit material to no more than two-thirds of the visible cutting area. Applying that wording gives derived planning references of about 0.67 inch with the 4-inch blade, 1 inch with the 5-inch blade and 1.17 inches on the 6-inch saw. These are conservative calculations, not separate manufacturer capacity ratings. Measure the stock in the intended cut orientation and reduce or reject the plan when the shape or holding arrangement requires it.
Separate blade size from the included blade set
The 4/5-inch package currently lists two silver notched blades: a 4 by .010 by .013-inch blade and a 5 by .010 by .013-inch blade. The two diameters provide different exposed heights; this is not the same bundle as receiving two blade constructions for different material categories.
The 6-inch package lists one silver notched 6 by .012 by .015-inch blade and one red sintered 6 by .015 by .023-inch blade. Hi-Tech assigns different material examples to those blade types. Treat those lists as model-and-blade-specific documentation, then confirm the chosen replacement blade's diameter, 5/8-inch arbor and maximum RPM with the Blade Checker and the exact blade instructions.
Decide whether the 6-inch vise solves the job
The verified 4/5-inch listing represents the base machine; no vise is included in that offer. The 6-inch offers include a base machine and a separately labeled saw-with-vise bundle. Hi-Tech says its 6-inch vise fits that saw only and requires the operator to advance the carriage manually. It is not gravity feed, hands-free operation or extra cutting capacity.
Choose the vise bundle only after checking that its jaws can secure the actual specimen in the planned orientation. A vise does not make every rounded or irregular piece supportable. If the clamping contact, carriage travel or clearance is uncertain, send measurements and a photograph to the manufacturer before ordering.

Account for the reservoir, body and duty cycle
Hi-Tech lists the 4/5-inch body at 13 by 9.5 by 7 inches and 10 pounds, with an 8-ounce reservoir. The 6-inch body is 17 by 17 by 11 inches and 15 pounds, with a 16-ounce reservoir. Both reservoirs are built into the base beneath a removable table, so the larger table and reservoir change handling and cleanup as well as bench space.
Both current manuals specify 30 minutes of cutting followed by 30 minutes of cooling. Both list a 1/4 hp direct-drive motor adjustable from 800 to 3,400 RPM, and both warn not to exceed the fitted blade's maximum RPM. The 6-inch is therefore not documented as a continuous-duty production upgrade. We have not independently measured speed, noise, vibration or durability.
Use a seller-checkable final choice
Before checkout, verify model 22-227 for the 4/5-inch saw or model 22-319 for the 6-inch saw, the required 115V or overseas 220V version, included blade dimensions, and whether the 6-inch listing explicitly includes the vise. Save the seller configuration, manual and return terms; a product photograph alone does not establish bundle contents.
Choose the 4/5-inch when the 5-inch blade's approximately 1-inch manual-based planning reference, compact table and base-machine workflow are enough. Move to the 6-inch when its approximately 1.17-inch reference, larger table, blade pair or compatible vise solves a repeated limitation. If the real task is slicing larger rough, compare a documented slab saw instead of stretching either trim saw beyond its instructions.

Can I fit a 6-inch blade to the 4/5-inch saw?
Do not do that. Use only the blade sizes and specifications supported by the exact machine manual. A shared brand or arbor dimension does not authorize an oversized blade.
Is the vise automatic feed?
No. Hi-Tech describes the 6-inch optional vise carriage as manually advanced. Confirm both the accessory and the selected bundle before purchasing.
