A single opening cut aims to produce two paired display halves. Before measuring equipment, photograph the geode from several sides, choose which surface should become the base, and draw the proposed cut line all the way around the outside. Multiple parallel slices are a different project. Each pass can intersect shell, cavity or a changing combination of the two, and the unseen cavity may be off center. Measure the full outside height on the proposed cut line and use the stricter instruction if the machine label or supplied manual differs.

A 60-millimeter-tall example sits below that 63.5-millimeter screen, but that does not approve the cut: the round shell may still lack secure contact points or interfere with the fixture. A 70-millimeter example exceeds the screen even if its cavity is large. Do not subtract the hollow center, tilt the specimen to hide height, rotate oversized rough through the blade or treat a narrow intended slice as reduced stock height. Require a fixture that matches the actual shell

Hi-Tech's model 22-333 vise is made only for its 10-inch slab saw and must be advanced manually; it is not gravity feed or hands-free. The current product copy does not publish a universal geode diameter or jaw-opening capacity. Before buying the vise or vise bundle, send the manufacturer photographs of the exact geode, its proposed cut line, outside dimensions and intended contact points, and obtain confirmation that the fixture can secure it without contacting the blade path.

A rounded shell, narrow base, loose rind, crystal pocket near the proposed grip or contact on only one high point can make a nominally small specimen unsuitable. Do not steady a rejected setup by hand, wedge loose scraps around it or improvise a clamp from a photograph. If the approved fixture cannot resist rolling and present the line squarely while preserving guard and blade clearance, use an appropriately equipped lapidary club or cutting service. The blade page lists 6-, 8- and 10-inch versions, a 5/8-inch arbor with a 1/2-inch bushing, and required water-or-oil lubrication. This supports a documented starting category—not permission to install any product described online as a geode blade.

Confirm diameter, arbor, core and kerf, maximum permitted speed, lubricant approval and exact-machine support before installation. The 10-inch saw product page lists 1,725 RPM while its July 2025 manual says 1,740 RPM; keep that conflict visible and confirm the machine label and current manual. Give a cutting service a checkable brief
