A lapidary saw vise secures a specimen for a supported feed arrangement; a fence primarily helps establish alignment. Neither guarantees that every rock fits. Choose a fixture documented for the exact machine, then check the specimen, mounting and full planned cut together.
Decide what the accessory needs to do
Begin with the problem you are trying to solve. Is the specimen difficult to secure, or are you trying to repeat a straight alignment on suitable stock? Those are different needs. Buying an accessory because its title includes 'lapidary' does not establish that it solves either one on your saw.

Check the documented Hi-Tech configuration
Hi-Tech's vise insert covers its 6-inch and 10-inch saws. It describes bracket mounting, rod-retaining clips, adjustable pads and a manually advanced carriage. This is not an automatic-feed conversion. Use the complete insert for assembly and confirm that the accessory version matches the saw.
Photograph the machine identification and mounting area when asking about compatibility. Include the accessory's exact product number or bundle description. A drawing for a similar-size saw is insufficient evidence: mounting details and clearance can differ even when the blade diameter is familiar.
Assess the rock in its cutting orientation
Measure the specimen as you intend to present it, not only its largest overall dimension. Note its shape, the intended cut line and the area available for the fixture to engage. A rounded geode, a flat slab and an elongated piece of petrified wood make very different workholding requests.
Draw the piece you want to keep and the proposed offcut. This simple sketch helps expose a plan that looks plausible before the cut but becomes awkward near completion. If you cannot establish an approved arrangement for the whole cut, change the project or ask for guidance rather than inventing a clamping method.
Do not treat the saw's exposed blade height as the fixture's capacity. The combined machine-and-fixture arrangement needs its own check. A vise can change where the specimen sits, which is why the same rock should be assessed again after changing the support.

Distinguish a bundle from a different machine
A saw sold with a vise may be the same underlying machine as the saw sold alone. Compare the included items and the documented fixture rather than counting bundle names as different cutting technologies. If you already own the correct saw, ask whether the approved accessory can be purchased separately.
