A wet tile saw is not automatically a substitute for a lapidary saw. Before considering any rock-cutting setup, the exact saw, blade, material and holding method must all be supported by the manufacturers. A matching blade diameter or the presence of water is not enough.
Begin with the approved application
Start with the instruction manual for the actual tile-saw model, not a demonstration of another person's machine. Ask what materials, workpiece shapes and cutting operations the maker permits. If the answer does not cover your intended stone and setup, do not infer approval from a similar-looking saw or blade.

A photograph of a cut rock does not show every condition that made the cut possible. Think through how your actual piece would be supported before, during and after the cut. A round or irregular stone presents different holding questions from a flat piece, even when their measured heights are similar.
Do not interpret exposed blade height as guaranteed usable rock capacity. Guards, table geometry and the holding arrangement still matter. Likewise, a calculated half-diameter is not a safe cutting-height specification. Ask the manufacturer about the complete setup rather than trying to overcome a fit problem by removing protection or planning unsupported passes.

Compare the total project rather than the saw price
List the finished result you want: a slice for later polishing, a trimmed jewelry blank, or another specific shape. Then compare the complete supported route to that result. Include equipment, consumables, material preparation and any outside cutting service you would otherwise use.
For an occasional piece, a local lapidary club or cutting service may be worth investigating before purchasing either type of saw. Ask whether they accept your material, what preparation is required and how they charge. This is a practical alternative to spending money on a machine whose suitability remains uncertain.
Water does not remove every operating requirement
